Saltmarshe Hall Wedding Photographer | Champagne Shutter Photography, York
Wedding planning should be an adventure to be enjoyed and if you choose Saltmarshe Hall, Howden, near Goole, it certainly feels this way as you thread the car down roads that weave through reeds, bulrushes and embankments alongside the Ouse.
This Yorkshire country house wedding venue oozes grandeur and elegance even as you drive up. Immediately, this photographer’s eye loves the sandy golden colour of the ashlar dressed stonework.
It really feels like you’ve hit upon a hidden away gem – an end of route destination you wouldn’t simply stumble upon, with a luxury that is way more than a ‘bolt-hole.’ An exclusivity like you’ve got to have been in on the secret! There’s a feeling of intimacy despite its scale.
Nor does this make for an issue with guests either – there are 14 luxurious suites and rooms in the main building, with a further self-contained converted stables on site, comprising 3 double bedrooms and kitchen, as well as a 2-bedroom cottage too. No end of choice to have everyone on site! Saltmarshe Hall really will be your own!
Choose the Yorkshire Suite as your bridal suite and the glamour continues…
We can have all sort of fun with the beautiful soft light falling on this roll top bathtub, from fun poses, if that’s your vibe, to a few glamour and fashion styled shots too.
Flattering prep portraits and fun roll top bath...
...or glamour/fashion editorial shots - think Vogue in black & white! You reclined, laughing in your dress, champagne flute casually suspended by a relaxed wrist, as you gaze out over your estate... 🥂
The large Georgian windows cast soft flattering light for elegant prep portraits.
The choices for stunning wedding photography seem endless at Saltmarshe Hall. Although photographers wouldn’t say it, not every venue is like this!
The beautiful staircase and large windows at Saltmarshe...
...make for an elegant patch of soft light here (whatever the weather) that will always be perfect for a photograph of you in your dress, whether from above, to show off your train, or below, like here, perhaps with your dad...or even from a perspective further down the stairs, like the middle image.
The Saltmarshe Suite – wonderful colours and warm woods – opulent design throughout
The Dining Room - as a hotel, this is the sort of venue for guest dining only, not walk-ins
There is an abundance of choice for ceremony and celebration options too.

Besides the indoor ceremony space, you have the bar and library.
Nothing epitomises the beauty and flexibility of Saltmarshe Hall more than the library. This elegant blue toned space will be superb for canapes, cocktails, coffee, but also opens out onto one of the two terraces for outdoor partying, before winding either back into the bar, or on to the covered area, which could be your choice for outdoor wedding breakfast dining.
This window....
...with the brass runner on the floor here, means the sill can open up to allow flow between indoor drinks, the patio, the bar, and the terrace and tree lined avenue beyond.

The covered terrace can be your choice for heated outdoor wedding breakfast dining, safe from concern about rain.
You can choose ceremony spaces including the tree-lined avenue or walled garden.
The tree-lined avenue...
...and walled garden are just two outdoor options for your ceremony, besides an indoor ceremony/reception space and the terrace for an outdoor reception.
The extensive walled gardens include pond, pool, and flower beds galore for beautiful portraits of the two of you, as well as guests during the evening reception.

Saltmarshe’s current building is a Grade II listed Georgian Hall, bought and renovated 12 years ago by the current owners, only the third family to own it across 900 years of history, having remained under the same family’s ownership from 1067 to the 1970s.
Why Choose Champagne Shutter Photography?
I firmly believe in the right balance of being friendly, along with a professional eye for detail. You are investing in expertise to ensure elegant heirlooms to keep forever after your wedding, but the best wedding photographs gain their elegance through your comfort with your wedding photographer, so that I can orchestrate the odd tweak, where needed, with no awkwardness. That’s why I pay close attention to your bespoke plans in our consultations leading up to your wedding and ensure a pre-wedding photography session to further aid your comfort. It’s from a genuine and authentic connection that the best wedding photography emerges.
With Tom at Champagne Shutter Photography, depending upon your chosen package, you can gain:
Unlimited coverage, usually circa 11 hours
From the curlers going in, to the party in full swing: preparation to dancing coverage, just beyond cake cut and first dance, including twilight couple’s portraits
Arrival to cover details and latter stages of preparation
Ceremony
Groups shots
Family shots
Couple portraits, inc. session at twilight, blue hour, sunset
Initial consultation meeting plus further planning consultation meeting to finalise your itinerary and requirements
Complimentary pre-wedding shoot (circa 2 & ½ hrs) to allow couples to get to know Tom’s approach, so you are comfortable in front of the lens prior to your wedding day – subject to mutually convenient date, (ideally but not exclusively mid-week) – provides photos for wedding save-the-dates, invites, website, or wall art
Skilled curation and editing of your online gallery (circa 600+ images on average)
Couple’s online gallery - download web resolution photos for online use, full resolution photos for prints & wall art orders – couples & family can “favourite” a selection of images to curate ideas for album design
Albums are available as either part of an integrated package or as an additional option later
Guests can enter a password-protected gallery to access and order social media downloads, prints, and wall art, from canvas, to framed, acrylic or metal prints
Couples can opt for two photographers – a second photographer is important if you want to cover more candid photos of friends during afternoon and evening receptions, when I am occupied with portraits elsewhere, and if you want to cover both of your preparations ahead of the ceremony
Every couple is different – and whilst it’s all well and good me extolling the virtues of what I think about portraying your day at a venue, we must make a genuine connection to tell your story! Check out Champagne Shutter Photography’s approach here.
